Education Scholarship Program

We provide education scholarships to assist with related expenses for trade school, college or graduate programs for people living with epilepsy. This year, we will award $1000 to three deserving students.

The Scholarship is currently closed for the 2023-2024 academic school year.

Education Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

To apply, you must certify that you are:

  1. A legal resident of the United States.
  2. Reside in an underserved community in one of the following US states: VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, KY, WV, LA, AR, TN, MS, AL
  3. Diagnosed with epilepsy by a licensed physician.
  4. Pursuing an associate’s, undergraduate, or graduate degree from an accredited US based college, university, or trade school.
  5. A student who demonstrates academic and personal achievement, possesses a strong record of participation in activities outside of school, and serves as a positive role model for others.
  6. Have been accepted or enrolled in a US based college, university, or trade school for the upcoming fall semester.
  7. Not a previous recipient of the Epilepsy Reach Foundation Scholarship.
  8. Not an employee or an immediate family member of an employee of the Epilepsy Reach Foundation.

Note: Immediate family members are defined as spouses, domestic partners, children, and parents.

Scholarship Program Features:

  • No minimum GPA or SAT/ACT score requirements
  • Not limited to a particular field of study
  • Open to college or trade school students of all levels
  • Not based on financial need

How to Apply

  • To apply, please fill out and submit the online application through the form below, along with all required supporting documents. The application window is May 1 – June 30.
  • Selection will be based on the following criteria, which MUST be included:
  1. A 300-500 word double spaced essay written by the applicant explaining why they should be selected for the scholarship and how the scholarship will help advance their educational goals. The essay should include any academic achievements, community involvement activities and/or advocacy efforts, and how epilepsy has impacted the applicant’s life, either as a person living with epilepsy or as a family member living with a person with epilepsy.
  1. Three letters of recommendation from the following:
    • School official
    • Community member
    • Healthcare team member
  2. A letter from the medical provider confirming an epilepsy diagnosis. Must be on official healthcare provider letterhead.
  3. A copy of the applicant’s most recent academic transcript.
  • After each winner’s educational enrollment has been confirmed for the fall semester, a check will be made payable and mailed directly to each winner’s school by July 31. Scholarship awards may be used to cover the tuition and/or educational materials expenses. If upon contacting the school we learn the student account is paid in full with no balance owed, that student will no longer be eligible to receive scholarship funds.
  • Applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Selection Process:

After the application deadline has ended, the scholarship committee will review all applicants and select three winners based on the outlined selection criteria. In the event more than three applicants meet all requirements, the committee will select winners by application date received.
